GENERAL DUTIES:
· Evaluates communication, swallowing and cognitive disorders and implements treatments and interventions, which result in the development of abilities and/or remediation of deficiencies in these areas.
· Gathers data related to patient's communication, cognitive, or swallowing disorder and selects appropriate evaluation tools for the purposes of assessment.
· Administers diagnostic testing procedures to determine the extend of the patient's impairment and prognosis for treatment.
· Presents in-service programs concerning the scope of speech, language, cognitive, swallowing impairments and treatments to nursing, clinical staff and the community, as requested or as need arises.
· Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team.
· Confers as necessary with physicians.
· Prepares written and computer documentation as required.
· Assists in interviewing new applicants and makes hiring recommendations.
· Assists in the orientation of new employees.
· Directs physical therapy staff as indicated, including license-eligible physical therapists, physical therapy assistants and rehabilitations technician/aides.
· Participates in the interdisciplinary patient care conferences and rounds to ensure efficient coordination of the overall health care plan.
REQUIRED:
· Illinois State Speech/Language Pathology license in good standing
· CFY Completed
· Proficiency in/willing to learn video fluoroscopy of swallowing function
· CPR Certification
· Excellent customer service and communication skills
· 1+ year of experience as a SLP
