Responsibilities:        Assists the principal investigators in the development and coordination of specific new research projects, experimentation, data collection, and organization of the lab. Oversees and manages the daily operations and research activities of the Biological Chemistry and Cell Biology laboratories. Maintains lab equipment. Troubleshoots any issues that arise with lab equipment. Ensures compliance with university regulations and management of proper waste disposal. Ensures laboratories stay within budgetary guidelines regarding expenditures for the lab. Ensures compliance with regulations on animal welfare and radiation safety. Ensures lab supplies are properly stocked. Represents the lab at all regularly scheduled lab inspections. Ensures that all lab members take appropriate training for biohazards, use of animals and radiation safety. Prepares solutions, reagents, and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures. Maintains primary cell lines through procedures including: passaging, cryopreservation, transfection, and cloning. Designs, optimizes, and conducts molecular experiments resulting in scientific data for peer-review publications and grant submission. Analyzes data from experiments using computer software and sophisticated molecular instrumentation including evaluation of DNA structure by EM. Provides technical expertise for all lab members regarding research activities. Develops innovative methodologies in several areas of research. Works with all lab members to design and execute long term research projects, ensures IRB compliance, discusses and troubleshoots experimental protocols and results, and provides technical writing for resulting manuscripts.

 

 

Requirements:         Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field plus four years experience in a comparable laboratory performing relevant techniques.
